POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Manager in charge of all welding and QA QC activities within PowerTech Solutions Ltd.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Welder Engineer
- Management of all welding procedures and qualifications and testing including.
- Analyse welding requirements for specific projects ensuring the any already approved in house procedures are acceptable and generate new procedures specific to project requirements and needs.
- Responsibility for the coordination of multiple projects and managing external test laboratories and Classification societies and Notified bodies with regard to welding procedures their approvals and testing .
- Liaise with the HR department to ensure the welders are vetted and suitable to carry out testing before committing to external 3rd party testing.
- Provide technical support with industry standards and specifications such as ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, AWS, BS EN, plus any other relevant standards which may be required.
- Management and control of all materials and consumables for welder testing and procedures.
- Coordinate failure analyses and root cause analysis on welding related issues if required.
- Set up and control and maintenance of a welder data base.
QAQC
- Oversee project quality to ensure compliance to codes, standards, regulations, equipment, specific specifications and QMS requirements.
- Oversee and assist Project managers to develop specific project Quality plans that satisfy clients and 3rd party requirements.
- Ensure Project managers comply with specific project Quality plans and company QMS system ensuring a review has been carried out before presentation to any 3rd
- Taking full responsibility for hold-point releases once all QMS functions have been completed and the equipment is ready to go into the next work stage.
- Identify and develop solutions to correct inspection function deficiencies.
- Manage construction processes, plant equipment, inspection and NDE personnel certification and QMS internal audits.
General
- Candidates must be flexible to travel to work on sites, onshore (yards) and offshore when required uk and overseas travel may be required at short notice.
- Candidate will be required to provide technical expertise on all welding matters as required by company or on specific projects. The candidate must be familiar with welding processes used at the Client: GMAW, GTAW, SAW, FCAW.
- Prepare project welding procedures, qualification plans and advise on materials issues, Issue technical queries, deviation request or Bid Technical Qualifications
- Prepare budget for engineering welding activities
- Prepare/Verify type and quantity of welding consumables examined by welding engineer
- Prepare/ Verify the preliminary welding procedure specifications prepared by welding engineer.
- Plan the welding activities (WPQR, PTW, Welders Qualification Campaign) and then Coordinate the Welding Procedure qualification.
- Maintain constant contact with project team and Client
- Issue mechanical test results for weld repair analysis
- Liaise continuously with welding equipment/material suppliers regarding the latest developments in welding technologies
- Program and implement procedure/welder certification activities
- Prepare technical and Project close out reports.
- Review client’s specifications and scopes of work, in compliance with the relevant specifications, codes and standards
- Review subcontractors welding documents and technical qualifications
- Ensure that records are maintained for all welding activities to demonstrate achievement of client requirements.
- Liaise with Certifying/Verification Authorities and inspection agencies on behalf of project
- Monitor project and documentation progress to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Perform additional duties within own experience and capabilities as advised by the Head of Department or Welding Co-ordinator.
Essential:
• Proficient in use of computer work processor and spreadsheet software.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing through memos and engineering reports.
• Must be able to work well with others in a team setting.
• Ability to work independently.
• Must be able to effectively handle many concurrent projects.
• Knowledge and practical experience of common welding processes such as SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW and SAW.
• Fundamental knowledge in NDE; ability to categorize & quantify weld defects. Preferred
• Knowledge or experience in the Land based Power , Marine Oil and Gas Industry.
• Must be able to work well with others in a team setting.
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
• Must have a flexible can do attitude and have a flexible approach to working hours ensuring project deadlines are met .
Preferred:
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing through memos and engineering reports.
• Minimum 3 years carrying out a similar role
Reporting Structure:
Directly report through the technical and operations directors and shareholders.
